Meet Gerry - Senior USY Advisor

gerry.jpg

After teaching many of the teens now in USY, I'm really excited about helping out as the Sr. USY Advisor.

After growing up in Newton, I went to college at Penn and our very own Hebrew College. After working for a year as a Math teacher, I went back to Penn Law School, working along the way as a Hebrew High School teacher in Philadelphia. I also spent 8 summers at Camp Yavneh as a camper and counselor, and 7 summers as a counselor and teacher at Camp Ramah in New England.

After finishing law school, my travels really began. I first lived in Wilmington, Delaware, and worked for the Jewish Federation there (and as the local USY advisor). After that, I worked as a lawyer in Los Angeles, California. My family and I then moved to Israel, living near Jerusalem for 4 years, where I worked as a fundraiser for the Israel Association for Ethiopian Jews, and several other organizations. Since returning to Newton in 2002 (who says you can't come home!), I have been a lawyer at the McCormack Firm in Boston, as well as parenting two daughters, supervising our synagogue's Israeli shlichim-youth staff, teaching Hebrew School (first at Reyim and now at Temple Aliyah), tutoring Bar/Bat Mitzvah students, and raising money for Ethiopian Jewry projects in Israel.

It's been great working with the kids at Reyim for the past six years, and I look forward to helping TRUSY grow and stay the best (and coolest) chapter in NERUSY!

Meet Klielle - Kadima Advisor

klielle.jpgHello Temple Reyim community! My name is Klielle Glanzberg-Krainin, I’m a sophomore at Tufts University from Philadelphia, PA, and I’m so excited to be your new Kadima Advisor. As a previous Kadimanick myself, I think the program is really great and I’m so happy that I get to be a part of it again. I’m looking forward to putting my years at Jewish day school to use in planning awesome events that have Jewish components as well. I’ve worked at Camp Ramah in the Poconos for a few years now and love working with kids, so I’m excited to have this opportunity to continue doing what I love.

Thank you for already making me feel so welcome in your warm community—it’s so nice to find a synagogue that reminds me of home. Looking forward to a great year with you all!
