Meryl, Laura, Irene, Barbara

Meryl Alpert began teaching in the V&J Rosenshine Nursery School in September 1981 and has been holding dual roles as Director of the Viola and Joseph Rosenshine Nursery School and lead teacher in the program since 1985.   Meryl attended the University of Connecticut where she received a degree in Early Childhood Development and Family Relations.  As a graduate student, Meryl attended Southern Connecticut State College completing her Master's degree in the field of Preschool Handicapped Children.  Meryl holds a CAGS (Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study) degree from Wheelock College in the field of parenting education.  Meryl utilizes her parenting skills by leading parenting workshops here at our school and facilitating parent and teacher groups in other towns as well.  Meryl has also participated in the Hebrew College Early Childhood Directors Institute enhancing her Judaic leadership qualifications. 

In addition to teaching here at the V&J Rosenshine Nursery School,  Meryl leads High Holiday services for young children, a Tot Shabbat program once a month and a Family Shabbat Service one Friday night each month in Leominster.  Meryl participated in the Director's council for Jewish Early Childhood Educators at the Bureau of Jewish Education.  She also worked on the planning committee for the New England Jewish Early Childhood bi-annual conference and was a workshop presenter many times.  Meryl is both a member of the coordinating committee and a workshop presenter for the Pathways to Jewish Excellence conference held locally. 

Meryl was recently honored for thirty years of dedication to the Rosenshine Nursery School with the planting of a tree in the nursery school’s garden.  See Photos from the Event

Irene Gladstone has been a lead teacher in the V & J Rosenshine Nursery School since 1985.  Irene grew up in Everett, has an undergraduate degree from Clark University, certification in early childhood education from Brooklyn College, and has completed additional educational courses from the New School for Social Research in New York and Wheelock college.  Irene has tutored for the Needham School Department, served as past coordinator for the Needham Disability Awareness Program and is an ongoing dedicated member of the Rett Syndrome Association of Massachusetts.  Irene has attended numerous professional conferences and workshops related to early childhood education and has been a presenter a number of times at these conferences.  Irene has been honored and recognized by the Rosenshine Nursery School for her many years of dedication to the children and their families.

Barbara Rome is in her fourth year as an assistant teacher in the Rosenshine Nursery School.  Barbara began teaching here after nine years of teaching toddlers at the Newton JCC.  Barbara truly enjoys working with children and not only recognizes the importance of quality early childhood education, she is passionately committed to personally providing it to preschoolers.  Barbara graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Personnel Management. After working a number of years in that field, Barbara received her Teacher Certification from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Office for Children.

Laura Wilson is a part-time assistant teacher in the V & J Rosenshine Nursery School working three mornings and two afternoons each week.  Laura has experience in Jewish early childhood education having taught at the JCC Early Learning Center in Brookline and at the Shaare Zedek Early Childhood Center in St. Louis, MO.  Laura’s familiarity with child-directed and learn-though play philosophies makes her a great match for our program. Laura has her BA degree in Women and Gender Studies from Washington University in St. Louis and is is currently enrolled in a child growth and development course. Laura’s combined classwork and many hours of teaching in the field will lead to her certification as an early childhood educator.
