Becoming B’nei Mitzvah
Celebrating the Bnei Mitzvah of our children at Reyim is a very special and memorable experience. They are full of joy, and a source of great pride for everyone – the child, their family and the community – as the student becomes our prayer leader and teacher!
(As Hebrew is a gendered language, the terms ”Bar” and “Bat” Mitzvah refer to boys and girls. “B-Mitzvah” or “B’nei Mitzvah” offers inclusive, non-gendered language. You can let us know which language you would like to use.)
As a smaller community, all of our students spend meaningful time one-on-one with Rabbi Berman to get to know each other better and share conversations about Jewish identity and core values, in addition to writing a d’var Torah that is rich in Jewish sources and celebrates the unique and genuine voice and wisdom of the child.
At the beginning of their 6th grade year, students begin participating in a two-year educational program designed to help them form meaningful friendships, feel connected to and comfortable with the Reyim community, and strengthen their Jewish identity and understanding of our ancient tradition. Our B’nei Mitzvah program includes monthly Friday evening programs as well as monthly participation in our prayer service and Torah study with Rabbi Berman on Shabbat mornings.
We are here to support you through this process. Please reach out anytime to Rabbi Berman with questions or to learn more.
