In the ancient rabbinic text called the mishna, our rabbis ask: when should we chant the Shema in the morning? And they answer: from the time you can distinguish between the shades of blue and white - up until sunrise. This is called “Alot Hashachar.” Chanting the shema together as the light comes in can be a very spiritually uplifting experience - and even more so when together with friends.
